Intelligent Octopus goes beyond a standard charge timer or app, providing a fully integrated experience with your EV or Smart Charger. You tell us your charging preferences and we create an optimised charging schedule to deliver the charge you need factoring in your charger’s speed and wholesale energy prices.A basic charge timer switches on and off at the time you set. Smarter charges can be programmed to take advantage of lower prices at night, but that’s the limit.

Rebate calculation
At Octopus Energy, we use data from your electric vehicle (EV) or charger to track how much managed charging happens through Intelligent Octopus and to calculate any rebates you’re eligible for.
The data from your EV or charger will most likely differ from what your smart meter or energy apps show. There can be a few reasons for this: sometimes it takes a few minutes for the car or charger to ‘tell’ us it’s started charging, and sometimes apps round to the nearest whole kWh, etc.
We’re asking you to trust us on this one. Our calculation will round things up and/or add a few percent to make sure that the rebate we give you is always as good as, or better than, what we believe it would be if there was a single verifiable number across your devices, apps and smart meter.
To qualify for rebates, you will need to keep ‘smart charging’ turned on in the Octopus Energy app and any manual charging you initiate through a ‘bump charge’ will not be eligible for a rebate.
Please note: All rebates/credits will be paid out in the following month for the previous months charging activity.
