The OctopusPeaker Battery Plan is the first of its kind, a time of export (TOE) electricity plan.
Instead of getting paid the same buyback rate for exported electricity all day, this plan rewards customers for exporting electricity at peak times when demand is at it's highest.

This plan suits households with a battery (including a Vehicle to Grid capable EV) who can export into the peak and shift their electricity usage to off-peak times of day. By shifting your usage out of the peak and maximising your exports during this time you can get the most value out of this plan.
You’ll earn a leading 20 cents buyback rate per kWh of electricity exported between 7am - 11am and 5pm - 9pm, Monday to Friday. For electricity exported at off-peak you will earn 10 cents buyback rate per kWh, and for night 5 cents buyback rate per kWh.

Electricity exported to the grid is more valuable at peak times due to the high demand during this period. With the OctopusPeaker plan we are rewarding customers with a leading buyback rate during the peak if they are able to export any excess electricity.
We provide you a breakdown of your peak, off-peak and night export on your bill, as well as import usage during the same time periods. This breakdown will give an idea of your usage and export throughout the day for you to decide whether you could get value from this plan. You would likely still need to shift usage to off-peak to benefit the most out of this plan.
Peak export: 7am - 11am and 5pm - 9pm, weekdays
Off-Peak export: 11am - 5pm and 9pm - 11pm, weekdays; 7am - 11pm weekends.
Night export: 11pm - 7am, every day
Anyone is free to join this plan, however it is unlikely you would be able to make the most of the higher peak export rate unless you have a battery to store excess electricity. Even on this plan, you are still more likely to benefit by prioritising self-consumption of solar then exporting any excess.
Our peak times correspond to the peak times we see nationally on our electricity grid. Demand is typically higher during weekday mornings and evenings, rather than the weekends and our times reflect this. We do not charge a peak rate for import over the weekends either, it is off-peak and night rates only.

The larger your system, the more you could benefit from this plan. Like any solar, self-consumption is a priority, followed by exporting any excess. If the plan isn’t working for you, we can always switch you back to OctopusFlexi tariff however, you can only switch once over a 12 month period if the plan isn't working for you.
