Behind the Octopus - Emma Conley
A few months into our journey as New Zealand's newest power player, we're already making energy affordable and easy-as for thousands of Kiwis. We wanted to introduce you to some of the team.
Role: Energy Specialist for the NZ team and Recruiter
Where did you grow up?
Whanganui, right by the river.
Tell us what brought you to Octopus?
I was working at an energy reporting place before now and got interested in the energy sector. I got to go to a few energy events and really liked how passionate everyone was about the industry so here I am!
What does sustainable living mean to you?
To me, it means assessing choices and picking the one that works best for your beliefs and budget. While it would be great, it’s not possible for everyone to make sustainable choices all the time and I think that’s okay. I think the onus is on companies to help their customers pick sustainable options and share the responsibility with consumers.
Tell us something about yourself that may surprise your work mates?
I’m probably too open with my work mates, so there’s not much they don’t know.
Do you collect anything?
Yes! Shells, rocks, beads, anything shiny - I’m a bit of a magpie.
What’s something you want to do in the next year that you’ve never done before?
I’d like to travel as an adult, without a plan and just see what happens. I’m going travelling at the end of the year but next year I have no plans!
If you could pick up a new skill in an instant what would it be?
Speak any language fluently.
What are you reading right now?
I just finished ‘The bricks that built the houses’ by Kae Tempest.
Have you ever met someone famous?
I went to a book signing of Jacqueline Wilson, a bit nerdy but I was a big fan.
How do you like your eggs?
Any way, with chilli flakes.
